“Students Pinch Pennies” wins multimedia category competition at Southeastern Journalism Conference
As the Topanga Film Festival prepares for a Monday, February 15, 2010 outreach to student multimedia creators with its Suitable for All Screens competition — five California media and education professionals participated in the 2010 Southeastern Journalism Conference, currently underway in Hammond, La. The 5-judge panel evaluated entries for the multimedia category remotely from the festival’s offices nestled in the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains.
SEJC, a near quarter-century conference, is headed this year by Dr. Amber Narro, a mass communication professor at Southeastern Louisiana University, host university of the 2010 event.
Teams of multiple students submitted stories that included at least three formats to cover a single story that included still images, written text, audio and video, and/or social media coverage. Judges deliberated between “Students Pinch Pennies” and “College degree + current economy = unemployed” to award first and second prizes, respectively with third prize going to “Students compete in the labor market.”
