Environmental filmmaker Gerard Ungerman works Topanga

Documentarian Gerard Ungerman whose “Belonging” recently showed at the Artivist Film Festival recently shared his work at Yoga Desa in Topanga. The filmmaker whose moniker speaks of his work — independent documentaries for a better world — plans to collaborate with the Topanga Film Festival in building a local audience for his upcoming body of work.

Next in store for the Chino-based French native is a documentary focused on positive change in America in a post-petroleum based economy and a close look at the challenges ahead in reformatting lives without many of the creature comforts of a post dotcom booming America.

Topanga Film Festival co-founder, Urs Baur, who turns 47 today, said among his goals for his new year is building an active and engaged Topanga Film Institute to best serve the local film community, to expand production in baurhouse and to a phenomenal festival in August.

According to the Los Angeles Times astrologer, “The best part of your life is yet to come. You move quickly toward a professional goal. A June trip is romantic. Lifestyle upgrades in August lead to personal developments in September. November brings a windfall. Sagittarius and Cancer people adore you. Your lucky numbers are 4, 5, 22, 10 and 41.”

Pondering the lifestyle upgrade promised by the Los Angeles Times astrologer, Urs said he is profoundly grateful to be able to live and work in Topanga and finds it difficult to imagine a lifestyle improvement, unless, of course, “it has something to do with that romantic trip in June — to the World Cup.”

Topanga Film Festival adds a day to the 2010 event

With 2010 right around the corner, Topanga Film Festival co-founders Sara and Urs Baur look forward to the festival’s 6th year. Also in the works for 2010: an environmentally-themed documentary, a foray into development, production and finance of feature films as well as live and multimedia production of the beloved opera, Carmen.

Joining baurhouse in 2010 is Milena Rimassa-Merrill, an executive producer best known for Sundance competitor Other Voices, Graduation Week and Mel. Most recently, Rimassa-Merrill was a content strategist for Advance Internet LLC in New Orleans, La. who joins baurhouse as a producer/fundraiser for both the Topanga Film Festival and baurhouse, a trans-format media production, distribution and creative services company.
